The Master of Arts in Mathematics is geared toward either high school teachers seeking to become certified to teach dual credit courses, or for those wishing to teach mathematics at the college level.
The Mathematics MA features 36 credit hours of coursework in areas including algebra, analysis, geometry, statistics, and instructional strategies in teaching mathematics.
This program concludes with a culminating experience involving a research project in a specific area of mathematics or the teaching of mathematics.

The Master of Science in Mathematics is ideal for students interested in advancing their STEM career, expanding their knowledge of statistics, analysis, abstract algebra, and mathematical modeling, or in eventually pursuing a doctorate in mathematics or a closely related field.
The Mathematics MS features 33 credit hours of coursework in areas including abstract algebra, number theory, complex variables, numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, probability, statistics, dynamical systems, graph theory, differential equations, and related elective courses.
This program concludes with a culminating experience involving a research project in a specific area of mathematics.

Admission Requirements and Instructions
Enrollment is accepted year-round for the Mathematics MA and MS programs. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Note: Applicants with deficiencies may be granted conditional admission.
International students must submit satisfactory Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores or equivalent proof of English language proficiency.
Admission Requirements
All students seeking admission to the Mathematics MA or MS program must apply to be accepted as a graduate student by Indiana State University.
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
Applicants must satisfy one of the following GPA requirements:
- Have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 in all undergraduate coursework;
- Have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework;
- Have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the applicant’s major field of study; or
- Have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all courses taken at the graduate level.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test scores or scores from other standardized examinations are not required, although applicants may, at their discretion, submit test scores for consideration.
Important: The Department of Mathematics welcomes applications from students who have previously specialized in related subject areas and who show promise of sustained and self-disciplined work in mathematics. Students not meeting all requirements for admission may be admitted conditionally and allowed to make up deficiencies.

To be official, transcripts must be sent directly from the college attended to: Graduate Admissions, Indiana State University, Welcome Center, 318 North Sixth Street, Terre Haute, IN, 47809. E-transcripts should be sent to admissions@storesoo.com. (Students who have previously attended Indiana State University need not send those transcripts, as we already have access to them.)
International students must submit academic records from every secondary and post-secondary institution attended. You might be required to submit additional documentation to ensure full evaluation.
